Friday Mar 30 01:22am“That’s all you can say,” had said Edward. “Is ‘oh,’ after disappearing for months on end.”
George had then pocketed the arrowhead and had turned to the luggage, which he had then proceeded to zip up. “I’m sorry for leaving you, son.” George didn’t show the slightest remorse for his disappearance, at least on the surface. But there had been a look in George’s eyes that had said otherwise.
“Where have you been?” had asked Edward.
The year was 1588. William awoke to the sound of his name being called. He tossed the covers aside and, in his gown, opened the front door. The Moonlight was dazzling, just as it had been when he and the other original colonists first arrived to Roanoke. He studied the moon with an unflinching gaze, as if challenging it to blink first. And it was then that the Moon spoke to him.
“The time has come, William,” said the Moon. And indeed, the time had come. There were no more minutes to waste. The ground was already littered with nearly one hundred handerchiefs. The colony had quickly declined into a ghost town. So many people had disappeared, if only William had acted sooner. ”Take the sword, William,” the Moon went on. ”Finish the man named Ananias Dare. All that I have promised you will be yours, the colony will be rewarded with enough supplies until the governer returns.”
“But it is murder…” said William.
“Letting Ananias live and putting everyone to death is an even greater masacre.”
William frowned. He knew what he had to do, though he did not much like it. He took the sword from beside the door. The blade gleamed as he held it up to the Moonlight. He then looked down at his right hand. Under the Moonlight, the freckles began to realign to show him the location of Ananias. He was sitting in front of the fort with his wife, Eleanor, and their newborn child Virginia. The Moon wanted Eleanor, and wouldn’t stop snatching people into Moonbeams unless William acted now. There were tears in his eyes. Within minutes Ananias Dare would be dead, and the blood would be on William’s hands. As he stopped out into the evening air, preying on Ananias, William couldn’t help but to wonder how it all came to this moment? And worse yet, where this one moment would lead them in the days, months and years that would follow…
Wednesday Apr 6 03:19pm“I’m standing here in Time Square and, as you’ll notice, the population seems to have thinned out considerably. Countries all over the world are suffering the same fate. Those in the direct path of the Moonlight have vanished into it entirely. The Moon, believed to be responsible for the disappearances, has left embroidered handkerchiefs in the place of his victims. No one knows for sure how the Moon is capable of its acts. Scientists are baffled by night time skies, where there is no sign of the actual moon orbiting the planet. We’ve just received confirmation from N.A.S.A. that the moon has vanished from its trajectory completely, leaving the night sky abandoned. There have been thousands of documented sightings of the supposed Moon. If you see this figure, find shelter immediately. His touch is considered dangerous. Even being in close proximity to this creature could result in those in his vicinity to disappear into the Moonlight. The Moon has one condition: to find this man, Ethan Cartwright, and deliver him back to the town of Redgrove. If his demand is not met, the Moon has vowed to eradicate the entire population of each continent without mercy. As the Moon protests continue to rage, and the world-wide manhunt for Ethan Cartwright accelerates, we have to ask ourselves…”
It was then that the news anchor, filming on live television, disappeared into a flash of Moonlight right in front of the camera. There came a commotion from the camera crew who captured the abrupt vanishing. The crew then disappeared as well, dropping the camera to the ground. There came a scrambling of the camera, and then lens stopped on the face of the Moon. He took control of the broadcast, completing the anchor’s final thought: “Where are you, Ethan Cartwright?”
